| Anyone have a Yamaha CRW-8424S driver? | |
| Posted by: cjtmacclassic on 2022-10-15 12:31:07 Like the title says, I'm looking for the Mac OS installer for this SCSI external CD drive. I found one good copy on archive.org in the wayback machine but it's stripped of its resource fork to begin with, so it's functionally useless. I've tried downloading within OS9 and transferring via AppleTalk to no avail. I don't think it's an issue with my transfer setup, the file truly appears to be damaged to begin with. FWB CD-ROM toolkit doesn't support this drive, nor do the patched Apple CD-ROM drivers from newer Mac OS releases. (I've also tried the requisite SCSI voodoo, with and without terminators, setting the ID to 3) I would be immensely grateful to anyone who can provide this installer in an internet-safe format. -CT | |

Toast 4 Deluxe - Macintosh GardenBurn CDs fast and easy in Mac OS 7 or later with Toast 4 Deluxe. It supports many SCSI external and internal CD-R and CD-RW drives, runs on both 68k and PowerPC Macs, and includes CDSpinDoctor, Toast Audio Extractor 1.1 and PhotoRelay 1.0.1. This is version 4.1.3.

| Posted by: LetraStudio on 2022-10-15 12:38:17 Wait, you mentioned setting the drive to id 3, that isn't a magic number for CDs, thats just the default apple used for internal drives. Does the computer have an internal drive too? Is it already using id 3? Use SCSIProbe to check what ids are available. SCSIProbe - Macintosh GardenA must-have for any user with SCSI ports/devices. 1st download:Versions 3.5, 4.3, and 5.2. 2nd download:Version 4.0. 3rd download:Version 3.4. 4th download:Version 3.1. 5th download:Version 2.03. 6th download:Version 2.01.

Running System 7.5.3 Toast 4 worked flawlessly on the first try! Very pleased to have this very tastefully striped drive going.  | |

However, 8x 150KB/sec for write would be 1.2MB/sec sustained. I'm not sure if the IIci is capable of this with anything besides the fastest source disk, and lots of RAM. I used a Quadra 605 to write CDs with back in the day, and I had to use a really fast hard disk for writing even at 2x, along with lots of RAM cache, or else buffer underruns would occur. | |
