Did Jaguar have an alternate beach ball?
Posted by: Corgi on 2022-10-14 01:20:03
The thread on nostalgia made me remember something that I swear I experienced when Jaguar was the current OS, but I've never been able to make Jaguar do on any of my hardware since.

When I was messing with Netscape 6 with said friend on her lamp, I swear there was a different beach ball cursor. It still spun, but it almost looked like a palette with the colours inside. It may have been while configuring PPP in System Preferences, or testing a dial-in script?

Every so often when I remember this it drives me crazy because I can't find any proof this ever existed in any image search I've done. I even tried Puma thinking maybe I misremembered the OS version, but no luck there either. Reading about Jaguar's replacing the Happy Mac with the Apple logo, I distinctly remember that feature which I attributed at the time to something in the iMac's firmware instead of an OS change. So it almost had to be Jaguar.

It looked something like this. The colours spun inside. It may have been an app; I’m going to try and install what I remember from that iMac on my ‘Book this weekend and see if I can find it…
