| blessing the System |
Posted by: bibilit on 2022-10-03 01:51:35 I am trying to copy a MacOs 8.5 system from my hard drive to a CF card in order to swap units (i made an image from the HD previously)
The System has not the correct aspect, so guessing will not work.
How can i get the system file blessed ? |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-10-03 01:54:50 Usually moving the Finder out of and into the System Folder will do it. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-10-03 01:59:28 Oh, the System file is appearing wrong? Can you open it? |
Posted by: bibilit on 2022-10-03 02:37:19 not, icon is not the usual one, this one is more like a blank page. |

not, icon is not the usual one, this one is more like a blank page. Did you copy it via a disk that wasn't HFS or HFS+ formatted? Is the new disk formatted as HFS or HFS+? |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-10-03 03:41:06 You can't open it as a suitcase? Sounds like the System file has got garbled in transit. Try copying it again... |

already done |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-10-03 07:02:23 This is weird. And it appears correctly on the disc you copied it *from*? Are the type and creator correct? ('zsys/macs', IIRC) |
Posted by: Crutch on 2022-10-03 07:18:21 Did you try just rebuilding the desktop on the CF card after the copy? (Restart with cmd + option held down)
Could be just an icon display issue. I don’t see how a simple file copy could bork the type/creator, though I thought the same thing (pretty sure it’s zsys/MACS) |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-10-03 07:19:30 No, I don't see how it would, either, but I'm trying to give up being surprised by software breaking in weird ways ;-) |

Yes fine on the original disc, i will have a look at it.
Did you try just rebuilding the desktop on the CF card after the copy? (Restart with cmd + option held down) will try ! |
Posted by: bibilit on 2022-10-04 13:16:23 Solved, probably an issue with MacOS X, using the Clamshell and MacOS 9 had the icon looking fine.
Moving the System file in and out blessed it for good.
The PowerBook 1400 is booting from the CF card… hard drive is dead in this unit. |
Posted by: bibilit on 2022-10-08 10:13:43 I missed the hard drive noise, so in the end fitted another drive and made a copy of the CF card to have a working unit.
But as i had another CF card in a drawer, made a copy of the Clamshell drive.
The 1400 can boot 8,5 or 9,04 if needed. |
