| DOS cards - any for the LC Macs? |
Posted by: Nixontheknight on 2022-09-22 18:30:30 I recently thought about the DOS-compatible cards that were made for the quadras, centri (centrises?), Power Macs, and other Macs, and was wondering if there were any IBM/DOS-compatible cards made for the LC line of Macs. I haven't found any on eBay, but I know some exist for the Macintosh SE. |
Posted by: joshc on 2022-09-22 19:22:49 Not that I've ever seen or heard of, it would be too much of a squeeze in the LC I think... |
Posted by: Realitystorm on 2022-09-22 20:05:55 I have the LC630 Dos compatible. It is a LC630 with a 486/66 and SB16. |
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2022-09-22 21:11:16 . . . for SE????? MacCharlie was pre-platinum series, an albino unicorn now and pretty much useless in its day. |

LC630 I'm assuming OP meant the pizza box LCs but yeah, the 630 is a good one if you can find it. Never seen a 630 DOS compatible in the UK. |

With some ugly hacking to add an external video and audio port you might get it working in an LC475, without the case closed.

/me points π Does it have the branding on the bezel tho? π (yes, I am being pedantic...) |
Posted by: Phipli on 2022-09-22 23:43:40 Wait, actually, a couple of years ago I swear I saw one on eBay for a pizzabox LC. Sold for a fortune though. Or more than I was willing to pay. Only one I've seen. I didn't save the details though.
Did you see it @Bolle @cheesestraws?
Edit - I really feel like I'm imaging it. Assume they don't exist unless someone knows of one. |

View attachment 46801 I was about to ask if it would be possible to use this board in an LC III then I noticed the 040 so it might be possible to put it into an LC 475 |

I was about to ask if it would be possible to use this board in an LC III then I noticed the 040 so it might be possible to put it into an LC 475 It uses a special video+audio i/o port on the board, so you'd have to make cables and possibly a small circuit to get the video and sound out. Doable... but not casually. |

View attachment 46802 I have a DOS compatible 6100 and having that factory silkscreen on the cover makes it legit. |

I have a DOS compatible 6100 and having that factory silkscreen on the cover makes it legit. Love the reminder on that model that the power button is in fact βon/offβ i.e. NOT a floppy eject button! |

Love the reminder on that model that the power button is in fact βon/offβ i.e. NOT a floppy eject button! because DOS and Windows users were used to an eject button on the floppy drive, and they probably unintentionally shut off the computer in testing |
Posted by: treellama on 2022-09-24 05:27:31 I was a cluster consultant in a room full of 6100s and music students would power the machines off, losing their work, all the time trying to eject floppies. |
