Macintosh 512K glitch
Posted by: aihk on 2022-09-16 23:45:27
My Macintosh 512K turns on with two pops ~ not a normal startup chime. After booting up, the floppy drive screen will be displayed, and some vertical lines will appear on the screen. Will change, has anyone encountered the same situation and solved it? This vertical line did not appear yesterday, but it appears today. I plugged it in with a plus logic board, and it didn't happen. The monitor and power strip should all be fine.

No chime maybe sign of bad ram

The vertical lines are definitely RAM(and logic board)-related. I believe the only socketed chips on the 512k 'board are the ROMs. You can try re-seating those, but that may not help. Have you inspected / cleaned the board of dust, etc.? Post a good quality picture of it if you can.

Piggybacking a good chip over a bad one can help to troubleshoot

There is a small board on the logic board~Remove the small board~It will make a sad Macintosh. Memory errors starting with 04. After plugging in the small board, it can be started normally. The startup sound is abnormal. After startup, there is a vertical line. It seems that the memory chip is damaged. Bought memory chips on the way. I'll change it after I receive it to see the result. Is there any way to accurately determine whether the memory chip is broken?

Is that replacing on the logic board or on the daughterboard as well?
