Found a boxed IIFX and an interesting thing inside

So I purchased a boxed IIFX from Japan. Looks to be in good condition. Came with foam, boxed KanjiTalk 7, boxed Hypercard, boxed keyboard, mouse...all hooks. But the most surprising was this:

Apparently they sold the IIFX with stands in Japan...which would make sense since they were limited in space! I never knew this.

You sure those weren't aftermarket added in after?

I mean it's possible, but seems like an odd thing to make for such a niche product. These are metal too.

They'd be fairly cheap to belt out once you'd made the die. They're extruded aluminium. They'd also fit the II, IIx, IIcx and IIci, although the ci had feet anyway. They'd sort of fit the Q700 as well.

They were definitely a thing for keeping the larger II series off the ground. It's possible Apple resellers in Japan included them in a package deal, but they were never an Apple-made/sold product.

A member 3d scanned one and I cleaned it up for another forum member to have printed. Hopefully they've held up for you, @joshc

There is a chance they're a standard extrusion. Might be just cut to length, painted and appropriately sized pads added.

Not Apple for sure, but I saw them once back in time, they were made for the Macintosh II/IIx/IIfx serie. Did you check if there is a mark somewhere on the stands?

Heh, I know this one. Those are Kensington Macintosh II stands. They are not an Apple product and wouldn't have been bundled with a Mac II (unless the packing list states so - do you have the packing list?). These stands were made of metal and have little foam pads where the stands touch the Mac II, exactly like the one in your photo. Look up Kensington products in various Macworld magazines -- sometimes their ads or reseller ads listed them.

And yes @jessenator my 3D printed Mac II stands are holding up well, though they're not in use currently, but safely in storage until I have room to permanently set up my IIfx again.

@hyperneogeo Besides the stands, what else was in your box? Can you show more photos? I know you've got the Japanese version of a IIfx, but I'd love to see photos of the packaging and included documents/accessories. I'm working on collating this info together in another thread:

Oh there was no documents in it. Only a copy of Kanjitalk 7 and Hypercard.

I have those too. They came with a massively long mac video cable and ADB cable too.

Ah, shame. Not a complete boxed IIfx then. I am pretty sure a bundled keyboard was not a thing with the IIfx either, though a mouse was.

Which Hypercard bits did you get?
