Thank you everyone for helping me with my absolutely beloved Macintosh Plus.
Today (after 3+ hours of work) I successfully replace the two veryc
close to death RIFA capacitors on the analogue board.
(Also a special thanks to my sister, for being on standby with the CRT discharge process, and my Mum, for helping me with the anode cap removal).

Well done and good work! Having someone else around when you are working on mains electricity is always a good idea. |

Nice work 68kPlus! Yeah it's a bit daunting yanking these crappy RIFA caps off analog boards, but you get the hang of it after a while. Hi also from Melbourne here. Not too many vintage Mac enthusiasts around. |

I was pretty scared working on my Plus (it's probably my most favourite thing I own), and I wasn't familiar with through-hole soldering work, so it was definitely daunting.
You're right, there isn't many vintage Mac enthusiasts - I have only met one down here in Tassie (It's the guy who runs a YouTube channel called The Basement - he came to my PC/Mac part sale).
It's also a shame prices for old Macs here in Australia is are so high. I got my Plus with it's mouse and a few other odds from an auction house (my parents actually paid for it as a Christmas gift - it was only $185 and didn't need any work done). |

Anode caps are bloody awful to wrangle. It's not just you.
Even after quite a lot of fiddling with these machines I try only to work on the CRT section when there's someone else in the house, and preferably another techy person...
You're right, there isn't many vintage Mac enthusiasts - I have only met one down here in Tassie
Being an old mac enthusiast in Australia does seem to be playing on hard mode, from what I can see... probably especially in Tasmania! |

I've only ever seen about 10 or so compact Macs on Gumtree and they were all priced $500-$2000 and that makes it hard to buy locally... |
