Interware Booster CV40-40 68040 40Mhz Macintosh CPU Accelerator
Posted by: slomacuser on 2022-08-26 05:49:57Thanks to joshc I have this now in mine Macintosh IIci.
Pros
- Makes your IIci fast as Quadra 700
- Need no drivers (Or does it? Maybe the one with the additional cache?)
Cons
- Does not work with Rominator II
- Even tho it is 040-40 MHz it is fast only as 040-25 MHz machine
- Software that is not compatible with 040 will hang a computer, like ATM Control Panel 2.0.2. that comes with Adobe Photoshop 2.0.1
There seam to be difference in ROM. This one from 1994 has 1.1.1. ver., as on the net you can find same ones from 1995 with ROM 1.1.2.
Any more info or possible drivers would be a help. Thanks

Have you got Apple's 040 Cache control panel installed? might help with this.
The Cache Switch control panel was provided by Apple Computer to allow users of the Macintosh Quadra series to switch off the cache of their Motorola 68040 processors in case of software incompatibility. The Cache Switch control panel was first released on October 21, 1991 with System 7.0.1...

Posted by: slomacuser on 2022-08-26 05:58:47The System 7 was installed before CPU upgrade so the extension was not there. Anyway newer version of ATM can also save this problem but I had to write something in cons ;-p

Posted by: Nathan_A on 2022-08-28 21:44:30I have the 128k L2 cache card that's for the back. Mine's on the "LC" version of basically the same card and inside my Color Classic II.
If anyone wanted to try to recreate them, I'd be open to submitting mine for reverse engineering.
Posted by: nottomhanks on 2024-09-26 07:38:02Just bringing this thread back, does anyone know if the cache card from the Carrera 040 card and the Booster are the same? The reason I ask is that I found a Booster with cache in a Color Classic 2, and I recently got a Carrera 040, but there was no cache.

No, they are not. Bolle sells fully built Carreras with cache cards, I don't know if he sells the cache card separately anymore.
