Software for iigs
Posted by: mloret on 2022-08-25 16:45:07
Hey guys,

i decided to move away from vintage Macs for a bit and try my hand at an Apple iigs. I saw that there are quite a few places online that advertise software downloads for iigs. I am wondering which of these sites the experts would recommend? Again, I am a neophyte here. Thank you for any recommendations!

Incidentally I own a BMOW Floppy EMU.

If you use a FloppyEMU, which can be a great experience with the IIgs or any Apple II, you need the Apple II firmware flashed. If you did not know there are both a Macintosh and Apple II firmware. You can switch but it is a couple step process on the floppyemu. I eventually bought a 2nd unit since I use them enough on both types of computers.

This site is a good spot to start exploring apps and games:

For permanent internal storage IMHO the microdrive Turbo is best bang for your buck, if you start sinking money into this guy 😛

One of the best places to get software for the Apple IIGS is:

This site is strictly dedicated to the Apple IIGS

Another is:

With this site you can download GS software aas well as regular Apple II software, which the GS can run.

Very helpful, thank you. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) getting this Apple iigs in one piece and firing up the games.
