Posted by: TweedyF on 2022-08-15 10:56:41I was given a Portable Stylewriter, which is an Apple-branded Canon BJ-10 with included Parallel-to-Serial adapter. It works like a charm with my Color Classic in 7.1.1, and apparently it also works well with the Newton, though I haven't tried this yet.
But no dice at all for me on the Color Classic when running System 7.5.5, or from my PowerBook running 8.6, or (obviously I guess) with a USB-to-Parallel adapter in 9.2 or Mac OS X with Cups/Ghostprint. (There's a Ghostprint/foomatic PPD file for the Canon BJ-10e, but that hasn't worked for me; I don't know if it's the driver, my USB adapter, or my incompetence with GNU printing that's the problem there.)
The only Macintosh driver I've been able to find is labeled version 1.0.
Evidently the printer can print in Epson LQ compatible mode by flipping a dip switch (11), but I also haven't seen any drivers for that printer for Macintosh or Cups/Ghostprint.
Does anyone know anything about getting this printer to print on a machine running system software later than 7.1.1?

This Apple CD from 1997 should contain a driver for the Portable StyleWriter. Perhaps it's a newer version.
