SE/30 Chassis Painting
Posted by: appleg33k85 on 2022-08-13 18:01:49
Just wanted to show off a bit of work that I did today. The chassis had a bit of rust on one of the rails so I felt it would be a perfect candidate to do a bit of painting on it and show off in the beautiful Mac Effects case. After taking off the rust and cleaning everything thoroughly, I decided to go with a nice glossy black. I thought this would make everything else pop. I thought about doing the PSU as well but held off for now.

Let me know your thoughts, should I have gone with something different, a bit more bold? I'd love to some day get some lights inside and an RGB fan. I also have a nice accelerator that I need to acquire an adapter for to help top things off.

Looks great, but do check continuity of earth from PSU/AB to chassis.

Nice! Makes me think chrome plated would be wicked too!

And there I always just use zinc spray to prevent corrosion.

Yeah, I know I have no style 😉

Looks awesome!

Agreed with this. This is important.

I wanted to go with black chrome look but couldn't find any spray local, so thought this would go well.

I did fortunately think to check continuity, everything is good to go on that end.

Would love to have a clear acrilyc case for the SE (or hopefully soon to be owned SE/30).
Unfortunately only the hazy are still available, and looks like @maceffects has no plans on a new production run of crystal clear ones...

Last time I spoke to a MacEffects rep, they told me they only have 6 of the clear with defects cases left in stoke. They are too expensive to produce.

I didn't really mind the bit of hazy though I do see the appeal of the crystal clear. I figured I would grab one while they still had some so I wouldn't end up regretting never having the chance to buy such a limited product, its really well crafted.

I'm wondering how it would look if it were tinted a bit, might have to try something out.

OMG! What, no disco ball in there? 😱

Thinking about it now, that would actually be the perfect accessory for my hazy clear case, makes for good rear projection of a Disco light show! Does anyone make an RGB LED spotlight for gamer rigs?

Man, now I have to find one!

Yeah, link it when you find it. Disco ball keychains are a thing I think? Aim a little fan at it for spinning? 😛

Yep, found a 40mm Disco Ball fob from Germany that looks to have the proper silver coated metal surface needed, but I'm making a trip to 5-Below. 🙄

No joy on the spotlight yet. Just managed to get the head off a Mini-MagLite I've been holding onto for several years. The Duracells in it may have as well have been from Maxell. It's probably better to design and print the spotlight from scratch after working out the condenser lensing angle though. But at least I managed to bin the rest of the acid ridden thing . . . finally!

I'm thinking black powder coating my chassis and maybe the drive sleds. Dunno, what are the rest of you considering in terms of drives and PSU?
