Battery holder for 512K
Posted by: pfuentes69 on 2022-08-08 05:33:41
Hello,
I got a 512K that is in pretty good shape, except for the battery holder, which has one contact gone due to corrosion.

I guess this battery holder is not easy at all to find, but does anyone of you know about a practical approach to restore it, or to retrofit another solution?

Txs!

Interesting. If you can get another battery holder of about the right size and borrow the contacts. Or buy some like this (from somewhere cheaper) meant for an 18650 battery? You might need to make a bit of a mod to get them to fit.

Thanks for the hint. That battery contact would be expensive to me due to shipping cost to Switzerland, but you gave me the idea and in Aliexpress I can see many options that maybe I can adapt to fit.

The 18650 would be too big... it wouldn't fit inside.

These 4.5V batteries are hard to find (and expensive), but I found out that you can use 3xLR50 (1.5V each) and it makes exactly the same size, and those are easier to get.

Even if you get shorter coin cells, you could use a stub of stainless steel bar to make up the length. Button cells leak much less frequently so it doesn't really matter about capacity so much. Let us know how it goes.

I'm in Europe too so those contacts are way too expensive and far away for me too 🙂

Txs. As there's still half of the old contact, I think I'll be able to fit something...
I'll post here the result... if it's not too hideous 🙂

I had this same question a while ago, and unfortunately Inwas never able to find a suitable replacement.

To clarify, I only meant the battery terminals 🙂 18650 is too long like you say.

Actually…to my recollection, I am just missing a tab for my 512k…maybe this will work.

I can't find a photo of the rear of the terminals to see what type of fixing mettod they use (there are at least three styles I've seen).
