| Emac CRT takes a while to come on from cold |
Posted by: LukeIntosh on 2022-07-31 13:09:48 so my Emac likely did not like the harsh British weather it went through and whenever the system is powered on the CRT takes approximately a minute to 2 minutes to light up. it starts off dim and red and then comes up to full brightness and a very sharp image.
i blame the cold as it turns on perfectly fine in the heat. but is it a sign the mac is calling for help? i don't want the poor thing to fail on me like my imac G3 did.
any help or tips will be appreciated. thank you for looking! |

any help or tips will be appreciated Well, you said "any"... I can't help much with yours - though it does sound like a failing component, might be a cold solder joint? - probably not an economical repair unless you can do it yourself. I do have a very nice dual-booting eMac if you decide to replace. Whereabouts in the UK are you? I'm nr. Oxford. PM me if you want to discuss... |

i don't want the poor thing to fail on me like my imac G3 did. Realistically, eMacs need recapping if you want them to last a while, though it may not solve the issues you are having. They rely on a ton of electrolytic capacitors. Even back when they were fairly new, eMacs did fail - the one I had didn't last very long, I'm not sure what caused its early demise but I imagine it was related to the CRT or analog board/power supply. |
