M2115 Drive Window Opens Off-Screen on IIfx
Posted by: Concorde1993 on 2022-07-29 21:03:48
When I click on the icon for my M2115 drive on the IIfx's desktop, its window opens off-screen. Any thoughts on how to get the window to not open off-screen?

Running System 7.1 - 8.24GC Card 13" Macintosh Color Display

I feel like there was a simple way to gather windows, there certainly was in the later "Monitors and Sounds", but can't see in in 7.1. I swear I've had and solved this issue.

Do you have AppleScript installed by chance? It wasn't standard in System 7.1, but if you do, use find to find and open Script Editor and run the following script.

I also tried deleting Desktop DB and Desktop DF, but that didn't do it.

Just realised it isn't your boot disk. This is the format for any disk by name (with the window open) :

set position of window of disk "YourDiskName" to {10,10}

Can you plug it into another Mac? With a bigger monitor? Then move it to the top left of the main screen?

PRAM reset and/or adjust monitor DIP switch settings should fix things

They're running a fixed resolution display - I'm fairly sure window positions are stored on disk because burnt CDs retain their window positions.

This fixed it. Thanks.
With a bigger monitor?
I think that's what caused the problem in the first place. I had the M2115 drive connected to my B&W G3 with the 22" Apple Cinema Display set to 1600x1200 and that somehow made all of the windows bigger on the poor 640x480 13" Mac monitor.

Glad you got it sorted 🙂

Sometimes I burn a CD on a more recent mac for my SE and forget to move windows up to the top left. Its rare you get stuck though, I think there is some kind of check, so the window must have been right on the edge and the finder thought it was ok. Edge case / bug? 🙂

I think it went well past the edge into another dimension. Couldn't get to it at all with the mouse. Even File Command-Open was useless.

Maybe.
