| Mac Classic ii won't boot from HDD |

I have a Macintosh classic ii that is very inconsistent with me I can install an operating system onto it. Also I have a second Mac that I swapped the logic bored into that computer is in Mac classic. Same problem and the hard drive seems to go in and out of working normal or not. |

If its an old hard drive, that sounds pretty normal, its probably dying or pretty dead already. Have you got another form of storage you can try? Does booting from floppy work reliably? (assuming the floppy drive works)
Some good options to try for SD card based storage are SCSI2SD or AzulSCSI. |

Booting from floppy drive works reliably and I have a second hard drive that works fine on my other Mac but this one it won't work and has the same inconsistencies. |

Have you got scsi termination set up? Sometimes it is a jumper, other times it needs a resistor pack.
Incorrect termination makes things... unpredictable. In your other machine it might just work, or something else is terminating the scsi bus. |

Well I've tried all the jumpers on both my drives but nothing works and I think its a logic board issue now are there any chips I should look at or anything like that. |

SCSI disks need a little bit more care setting up than you make it sound like 😆 I'm guessing you took more care than it sounds 🙂
What did you set it to? ID should be zero for a primary internal boot disk, term power disabled (the computer provides it), termination enabled... other options depend on what model disk it is. |

put that drive back in and hold left shift key..it may be stuck on a bad extension. Wont hurt to try
also when was this recapped? it honestly looks kinda nasty around a few of the ic chips legs etc. I would take that board and drop it in a dish of isopropyl 91-99% gently scrub with soft to medium toothbrush. Pay attention to the ic chips around where caps are. Be careful not to yank or smack one of the caps off, dont be in a rush. Let soak for an hour or two, pull out, tap off excess fluid, Let air dry for 48 hours. |

Ok, I've cleaned it and nothing but I've been doing some testing. I can boot off the hard drive but only the pre-made system files (Like off of a disk repair floppy) and I can copy that system file to the hard drive and boot off that but when I try to install an os it will never boot and when looking at "About this macintosh" it just says macintosh not classic ii. It really seems like the os will not boot off of the drive and only floppy systems. Also, it doesn't matter the version of the OS none of them will work. |
