I bought two 68040 cpu’s awhile back. I tried to pop one in a 630cd but pins werent the same. Are these Mac compatible? | Posted by: David Cook on 2022-07-03 20:22:16
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The 'V' at the end indicates something important.
According to section 1.1.1 of the 68040 manual:
The MC68040V and MC68LC040 are derivatives of the MC68040. They implement the same IU and MMU as the MC68040, but have no FPU. The MC68LC040 is pin compatible with the MC68040. Hmm looks like at some point they made some 182 pin versions as opposed to the more common 179 pin packages. | | 1 |
