Looking for replacement NPN transistor for Apple CRT monitor
Posted by: 9166188 on 2022-06-30 20:37:44
My Apple CRT monitor M1212 is dead with a suspected shorted NPN transistor (Motorola MJF16206). I'm trying to find a replacement but to no avail. Does anyone know what model of NPN Transistor is compatible w/ Motorola MJF16206 that I can buy from the market? According to its PDF, it's a NPN Bipolar Power Deflection Transistor specifically designed to use in CRTs.

Is it safe to replace it with a 25A 1200V transistor commonly used in induction cooker?

you'd have to compare their datasheets and their pinout

as long as you replace it with another NPN bipolar Power Transistor that meats or exceeds the original part specifications, you should be fine to 'up-rate' with a modern part. as mentioned above refer to the Datasheet to confirm not only the pinouts but also that Vces, Vebo, and hFE are similar (probably forgetting a couple other important characteristics but normally those are the most important).
Perhaps if you find a replacement part that you think will work you can post the part number and myself or someone else can check to see if it is useable as a part subsitutiion
