| Flat cable for LCD screen Portable non backlight (M5120) |
Posted by: mactjaap on 2016-05-05 09:19:21 I was wondering if it is possible to find a replacement for a LCD flat cable for the Macintosh Portable. My spare one has some wires cut. Would be nice to sell it working. The rest works OK..
It is a flat cable with 26 wires and two different female connectors. Or is there a way of repairing it?

Posted by: uniserver on 2016-05-05 23:04:16 you could fix that up easily with some soldering and shrink tube.... ย ย its the 5126 cables that are the fregin nightmare.

Posted by: techknight on 2016-05-07 17:49:49 I rebuilt one of my cables using old Ultra-ATA ribbon stripped. I pulled apart and re-crimped the fittings, and all was well. I just redid it with an entire piece of new cable.ย

Posted by: CC_333 on 2016-05-08 19:53:30 I wish that could be done for the backlit cable.
I wonder, if one were to somehow figure out the pinout, if a replacement cable could be made with much better material?

Posted by: techknight on 2016-05-09 10:08:21 I am waiting on aplmak to ship me a non backlit to backlit upgrade with cable.ย
Once I have that, I can unlock the ability to make new backlit cables. as well as reverse/forward cables, and replacement inverter drivers, etc...ย
Problem is, Getting him to do it. Without that missing piece, I cannot do anything.ย
Everything hinges on that one piece. I honestly think he doesnt want to let go of it, even though its a loaner.ย
and If I cant get one on loan, nothing can happen.ย

Posted by: aplmak on 2016-05-16 13:39:21 If there is anyone that should tinker with it, it should be techknight seeing how he is like the portable EXPERT in my opinion.... He could have been on the engineering team at this point!! LOL!

Posted by: CC_333 on 2016-05-16 14:12:53 I'm working on getting a 5126 from Macdrone, and maybe I can figure out the pinout of the cable, if that helps?
