Hi pals.
this might be an easy thing for you guys 😉
I have a nice G4 Sawtooth 500MHz
it's connected via a VGA connector to a monitor configured to1280 x 1024, the monitor can not support higher resolutions
But video card is capable of going 1920 x 1200 and up
and I have a Cinema Display M9178 can support 1920 x 1200, using a VDI connector, that I wish to connect.
My problem is that the only resolution the video card supports that fits the Cinema Display is 1920 x 1200 BUT the VGA monitor doesn't, so it reverts back to the lower resolution, which does not work for the Cinema Display.
So, I'm stuck to1280 x 1024.
Of course I tried to restart with the M9178 connected, but the screen remains pitch black.
I wish there is a way to set the graphic resolution for the next reboot, so I could then remove the VGA cable, connect the VDI of the Cinema Display and restart.
Can you help me to do this?
Any other workaround are welcome, if there are any

I would expect the video card to detect the 1920x1200 display at boot, but I’ve heard the M9178 displays in particular are unusually picky about their DVI signals.
I haven’t tested mine with AGP cards, but I’ve found it works with the 64MB Radeon 7000 PCI, and doesn’t work with either the 32MB original Radeon PCI or the Voodoo5 5500 Mac Edition PCI.

What's a VDI connector?
Do you mean ADC (the DVI-type port with the rounded corners that also supplies power to the monitor)?

I think he means DVI? In any case, that display requires DVI.
