Some kind of floppy controller? Figured looks like it might convert one floppy port to another connector and a DB19? Maybe for use in an LC? |
Posted by: jeremywork on 2022-05-22 02:49:19 Looks like the board inside an A9M0106 external floppy enclosure.

Posted by: mg.man on 2022-05-22 02:55:11 Ahhh... I *knew* it looked familiar. I don't have a discrete picture, but here's a shot of the back end of one I recently restored.

The two 2-pin headers go to a "eject" switch (for non-Mac use) and "in use" LED. |

What about the second pin header? Has it ever been used on any Apple floppy drives? You talking the other floppy port header? I would presume that's for the daisy chain port. |
Posted by: olePigeon on 2022-05-24 09:01:07 As others have mentioned, it's the connector board for the external floppy. @Johnnya101 @Nixontheknight The second floppy header actually connects to the external floppy cable (the cable that ultimately connects to the computer.) The female connector on the board is for daisy-chaining.
@jajan547 The little adapter board is still useful, though. It gives you real LED r/w status for any floppy drive. So if you stuff it somewhere between your floppy drive and your Mac's motherboard, you can route some LEDs to the front of your case and get real LED action. I did it on my IIci (fits perfectly under the drive cage.) |

Was also wondering would this add DB19 capabilities if connected to a floppy port say for instance on machines that don’t have a DB19? |

So if you stuff it somewhere between your floppy drive and your Mac's motherboard, you can route some LEDs to the front of your case and get real LED action. I did it on my IIci (fits perfectly under the drive cage.) This is an easily reversible mod and I think it's slick on any system that isn't trying to look historically accurate... Hopefully a simpler version can be recreated so viable A9M0106 enclosures aren't needed. I was lucky to find a lot auction which included one ruined case and a second with internal plastic bits rattling around, but I'd feel bad making this permanent if I hadn't had such an opportunity.

Posted by: ArmorAlley on 2022-11-17 23:02:31 That might work in an SE if you have a harddisk in the upper bay and are not making use of the PDS slot at the back.
It might be a bit short through.
If it did work, it would give those with a second external floppy drive a chance to use two of them, or allow for an external floppy drive and a Floppy EMU. |
