Se/30 etherport se/30 troubleshooting
Posted by: mc9625 on 2016-05-02 10:47:07
the se/30 I have recently purchased has a net card, the etherport SE/30. The card is correctly recognized by MacEnvy.

I have installed the only drivers I have found (Shiva Kinetiks Novell) that should work with this card.

The system is OS 7.5.3

To connect the SE/30 via Ethernet I've purchased this "Allied Telesyn CentreCOM 210TS Twisted Pair Transceiver IEEE 802.3 10 BASE T". This is connected to my DLink DSL-2740R.

Nothing works.

The lights on the adapter are off. And even on the router there's no light.

Now since there are too many variables (the Mac, the OS, the card, the adapter, the router... even the cable!) is there any good soul that could point me to the right direction in order to make this work?

I'm confused. If the SE/30 has an ethernet card, why do you need the Transceiver? Is it because the port on the ethernet cord is non-standard (AUI or 10Base2, maybe) and you need the adapter to give you a RJ-45 port?

Since you're running 7.5.3, try (re)installing Open Transport and see if that helps. I haven't had experience with it personally, but reportedly that solves a lot of ethernet woes.

I'm sure others will be able to be more helpful!

Yes you're right. I need an adapter in order to convert from AUI to RJ45.

Sorry, where can I find the open transport ? Is part of the 7.5.3 installation disks?

I believe Open Transport is a(n optional?) part of the 7.5 installation, but others can probably advise you better, since I have only read about 7.5 (I tend to have 7.1 or earlier on my machines).

This guide is overwhelmingly dense, but full of useful information:

Good luck!
