| ImageWriter II red color bleed? |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-05-04 17:46:35 Hey everyone,
I've been trying to get my IWII to print color pics for my kids, but I seem to have this crazy color bleed issue on various lines. I will show you what I mean in the photo. This is using the new-made Maceffects ribbons, not NOS ones. Any ideas as to what might be off causing this? |
Posted by: Byrd on 2022-05-04 18:19:35 From my years using an Imagewriter (the screeching still haunts me), I'd say that's the best quality output you'll get - maybe clean the internals of the IW with some cotton buds/Isowipes. |

It almost looks like either the ribbon is hanging up on some lines or maybe the little stamp things in the print head might be stuck? If you haven't cleaned the print head yet, maybe see what happens. Not sure how to do so, but I've seen others need to do it on here.
The black parts seem fine though?
There is also a color ribbon alignment test found in the IWII troubleshooting part of the owners manual. Might want to try that out. |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-05-04 18:32:51 Well if it is what it is, that is fine: I'm not looking for business color laser jet output here. Just making sure something isn't amiss. I figured not since with a black only cartridge and text, it looks about as good as it ever did. |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-05-04 18:33:22 How does one run the test? Of course, all my manuals are buried in boxes. |

Not saying it is your problem, but won't hurt to check. Might only need a little adjustment. |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-05-04 19:12:15 I ran the aforementioned self-test. I think I'd be hard pressed to get anything batter out of a 35 year old machine with no recap and no maintenance! Maybe it is something with the way the overlap happens in the program I am using (Print Shop Deluxe). |
