Syquest Syjet Drives-Experiences?
Posted by: kkritsilas on 2022-04-28 19:45:47
Hi,

For better or for worse, I now have 3 Syquest Syjet drives (two are labelled working, one as intermittent) along with 9 1.5GB cartridges, power bricks, manuals and drivers (drivers and manuals for both Windows and Mac). I haven't tried them out yet, as the 2 interface cables that came in the bundle are HD-50, or what I think are normally called SCSI-2 Narrow cables on both ends, and I need to get DB-25 to HD-50 cables for use with my Centris 650 and 7300/200. I also ended up with 10 EZ135 cartidges, but without an EZ135 drive, they are pretty useless.

Before I start the search for the right cables, does anybody have any experience with these Syjet drives? How reliable are they, are they reasonably fast, etc. The Mac manual seems to indicate that the software with them is Silverlining PRO. I am I right in assuming that if I format the drive using Silverlining PRO, that these will be bootable after I put a system on them?

I don't have direct experience with the Syjet drive, but based on my experience with a Syquest EZ135 that I bought off of a fellow 68KMLA'er a few years back, Silverlining Lite or Pro should format them to a bootable drive.
