does anyone make a atx to MDD converter

Be aware that no passive ATX to MDD converter will support the 25V needed for the ADC port ( if you are using a ADC display ).

Apple Studio Display 17" Clear Shell Flat Screen CRT Monitor M7768 2000 Vintage | eBay

Tested and has a very nice picture! Crack on the Apple emblem. Light scratches on the chassis may also be present. Very heavy. Local Pickup.

Is that CRT really just powered by the 25V ADC Port? I have a hard time believing that. theres got to be AC power input somewhere on that CRT. A CRT Requires Alternating current to function!

Nope, all over ADC. IIRC this one can draw up to 117 watts, which *will* push the PSU over its limit if the machine already has the full extent of available bells and whistles.

I wanted to get that but it seems to me that if I ever have to ATX mod my G4, then that monitor becomes useless. Or if I ever want to upgrade the video card with a flashed one. Surely I could just get a trinitron and be just as happy?

Probably true, if you don't mind the aesthetic.

There were adapters sold by Griffin which allowed a VGA input, USB, and standalone power cable to enable use of one of these. The DVI based ones made by Apple will only work with the ADC flat panel displays.

It’s on my TODO list for when the QS power supply inevitably gives out and I can’t run the studio display any more. (Or I might just run the QS with an ATX and the ADC with a bench supply. Or get a rebuilt power supply…)

Glad to see that cable is available again, even if it is implemented in straight wiring. The originals were built on a jig so as to match the twists and turns of the OEM part. I've got pics of the jig somewhere, might be useful if only for torquing the straight build into shape?

If I ever do this, I'll jig it up and heat shrink for tidiness (and because I'm OCD, likely wire in a voltage up converter to get a proper 28V feed).

Thanks. Out of habit, I back up anything I might be remotely interested in doing. Web pages are ephemeral, so far only one of my HDDs has been and that one I screwed up myself trying to run a G3DT off my G4 boot disk. Ignorance of partitioning constraints is not an excuse. 😳

With OEM cable in hand and a bit of scaling in AI, I figure that jig would be easily reproduced. Never got around to asking for dimensions, meant to do that when his cables went out of production before I could snag a set.

I did the ATX power supply swap on my MDD a few years back.
I got a molex pin extraction tool and swapped the pins in just a few minutes.
I used an ATX PS extension cable to route the lines behind the optical drives and clear the full-length nvidia card.
The PS is held up with a couple of sheet metal screws under to the top plastic. Works great.

Thanks, back in the day I had it loaded up with four HD's and two optical drives. No wonder the original PS gave out. (twice)
I pulled out two of the HD's and an optical drive after the second OEM PS died.
It's a dual 1.25ghz system. My intention was to over clock it to 1.42 but I never got around to it.
These days it's barely usable for iTunes and occasional scanning.

I'm planning on rewiring one of these. I got an old fashioned multicoloured one to reduce the chance of making an error, most are monochromatic these days.
