Control Panel or System Extension in System 7 - 9 for Display?
Posted by: Elfen on 2014-10-17 13:55:25
I've seen it around but forget where, but I'm looking for an Apple Control Panel or System extension that allows one to adjust the display brightness and contrast  by software and not the buttons on the side of the screen. Though it was meant for PowerBooks, a few of the LC 5XX & 5XXX AIO series also had this control panel.

Have you seen it? Do you have it? I need it for a powerbook with bad display buttons.

Control strip.

Turn it on in control panels.

Then you should have display settings, contrast and brightness if it is available.

I'll see if Control Strips is on, I think its disabled on the system in question.

Once you turn it on it should allow all the adjustments. Imagine it's like the original settings panel. Airport , drives , volume , battery and more.

Wow, Macdrone! Six identical posts! I think something went wrong!!

Anyway, doesn't the Screen control panel serve this purpose? It controls brightness at the very least. It should come standard on any System 7 install meant for a machine that supports it (though one can ask for it manually at install time via the Custom Install option, I think).

The monitor related CSMs, to my understanding, only control basic things like bitdepth and resolution (maybe TV mirroring as well, don't remember).

Of course, in later versions (Mac OS 8 and above I think, maybe System 7.5 as well)), the brightness/contrast controls were rolled into the all-in-one Monitors & Sounds control panel (again, those options are only enabled for machines that support them). I think the Screen cp works on these OSs as well.

The Internet went berserk I guess. I only hit post once.

The Mac Classic had a dedicated Brightness control panel as those machines lack the dial the earlier compact Macs had. The Portable's brightness control was located in the Portable control panel with the rest of it's specific functions.
