| DiimoCache in SE/30 really unstable when cache is turned on |
Posted by: Knez on 2022-04-10 09:32:49 Hi!
My SE/30 runs just fine with my DiiMoCache as long as the cache is disabled using the preferences panel. As soon as I turn it on it starts pushing out random "type 1" errors and random freezes. When the cache is disabled all is fine (but much, much slower).
I'm thinking that it might be something wrong with my DiiMo.
Specs are:
- Totally recapped SE/30 (analog board, motherboard, PSU)
- 128mb RAM
- MacCon soldered with a straight connector (done by Bolle)
- Bolle's "topper" adapter on top of the MacCon
- DiiMoCache card connected to the Topper adapter
- SCSI2SD v5.1
It's a wonderful machine, but I'm getting a bit frustrated with it now. |
Posted by: Knez on 2022-04-10 10:51:32 Just tried with a fresh install of 7.1 with nothing more than the DiiMo control panel added. Freezes seconds after I turn on the cache š |
Posted by: Byrd on 2022-04-10 15:49:27 I'd be stripping it down to the basics - just the card (no topper), less RAM (put back in some 1MB sticks), stock ROM - any more luck that way? |
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-04-11 02:20:04 iirc the DayStar powercache also had issues turning on caches when running on SE/30, I'm not aware of DiMo, however the DayStar one works fine if used with @Bolle twin adapter that includes a built in ethernet. You could try, however every board have its own story, probably Bolle could give you better info. |
Posted by: Bolle on 2022-04-11 02:28:59 Can't remember from the top of my head... which revision of the adapter did I send you @Knez?
I had a IIci DiiMO here at some point to test it in my adapters but I think that wasn't yours but from someone else. It did run fine including when caches were turned on with the ethernet/adapter combo card (which is basically the same as a MacCon stacked with the newest revision of the Topper adapter) |
Posted by: Knez on 2022-04-11 07:52:22 Iām quite worried that I damaged it somehow when the PSU in my other SE/30 blew. This DiiMO was in that SE/30 when it happened and has experienced some kind of high current situation. MacCon seems to work like it should though.
Iām worried that the MacCon, Topper or DiiMO have been damaged. But as I mentioned, everything is rock solid as long as I keep the cache turned off.
Will try messing with the RAM later today and see if that makes any difference. |
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-04-11 08:43:39 @Knez how the high current happened ? |

@Knez how the high current happened ? @amedeo_68k PSU blew but I didn't notice until it fried my motherboard (screen got garbled, sound got messed up etc). Didn't measure the voltage until it was too late. Bought another SE/30 and moved the MacCon, Topper and DiiMOCache over from the broken one. DiiMO worked flawlessly in the old one until the PSU acted up. |
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-04-11 09:23:23 oh, this is a very bad accident. The PSU was recapped ? |

oh, this is a very bad accident. The PSU was recapped ? It was not. Only the motherboard was recapped on that machine. |
Posted by: Knez on 2022-04-13 01:20:55 Took out all the cards from the SE/30 and reseated them firmly. All seems to be well now. Managed to get through MacBench and 3 hours of tinkering and playing games last night without any trouble.
Interesting comparison btw.
Stock machine vs DiiMO with cache turned off vs DiiMO with cache turned on.
Thanks for the input, guys š |
