Apple IIe card and FloppyEmu
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-04-01 14:57:54
Hi, I’m unable to boot my ”emulated” Apple IIe from any floppy via FloppyEmu, no boot device error.
Any ideas ?

Sorry for obvious question... is the FloppyEMU connected to the "Y" cable?
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-04-02 05:19:20
Yes. Original Y cable

Are you sure you load a 5.25” image? I recall the 3.5” are not supported as the Floppyemu emulates a 3.5 drive that’s not supported bij the IIe card

Yes
OK, sorry to ask the obvious. Doesn't the FloppyEMU need to be in "SmartDisk" (or something like that) mode? I don't have mine in front of me to check the various Apple II modes...

Ooo... interesting... I thought the IIe card did support those. Of course, the other option is to load the diskette image onto the Mac and point at that from the IIe control panel... I believe that's possible?

Yes, I believe it does!

Yes. It emulates both

No. I think is not possible to use disk image on IIe card. But I could connect floppyemu on Mac floppy. Then apple IIe card can access it.

Aah, you mean the internal connector, right?

Exactly. The apple IIe board can take over the Mac devices

Have you consulted this - https://www.apple.asimov.net/documentation/hardware/machines/Apple IIe Card for Macintosh.pdf

It looks like there is a 5.25 drive "option". I believe the IIe card defaults to SmartPort? The FloppyEMU needs to be in the matching "mode" I believe. Can you do a DIR of the diskette when mounted?

If I recall how to use Apple IIe 😅😅😅

I also recall you need to have the specific firmware for Apple II installed on the FloppyEmu. It’s a different one than the Macintosh firmware.

Been a while for me, never used a floppyemu either.
You can use the Macintosh floppy or any smartport connected to the Logic Board.
The Apple II file can be used directly from the hard drive, the file will be handled and the Apple II mode will kick in ( double clicking the file)
The icon is different.
No image is usable, the real thing.

A ProDOS partition on your hard drive, that is. Right?

oh. Really ? It sounds odd. How it would recognize the image. Should I set type/creator ?

The Prodos partition is an option, not mandatory.
Any Apple II file will be detected.
See my previous post.
