Color Classic ROM replacement
Posted by: Kothnaaken on 2022-03-31 20:23:16
Younger me was an idiot and I put the lower ROM of my CC in the wrong pins and fried the chip seemingly. I've since recapped the board but I'm not getting any display and I am assuming the ROM is dead. How would I go about programming a new set of ROMs for it or procuring a new set somewhat cheaply? I've found a download for the CC rom, but it's only one file (I think consisting of both?) and I need compatible chips as well. I don't want to buy a whole new board if possible with how expensive they are (unless someone has a battery/other damaged board with good ROMs on it?).

Hey there I have a Color Classic and Color Classic II can probably do a ROM dump, I believe its a 27C010 but let others confirm that first.

That would be pretty helpful if you could, if I need to swap both ROMs then I will. I just need a way to program them in that case or get someone to.

Before diving in... I'm pretty sure - just like with the SE, SE/30, etc... that the mask ROMs Apple used are not 100% pin compatible with 'E' or 'EE'PROMs...

I’ll tinker around with it this week

Ok so I have the special little adapter for 27C400's but I'm not sure what the exact chip Apple used is, if anyone can provide that chip type I might be able to make some.

Wait a minute are you just turning on the computer with the rear switch? If so you need a keyboard with the extra power button, basically flip the power switch on and then hit the power button on the keyboard and that is how these turn on.

I can probably get you a set of original ROMs if needed. I have one or two battery bombed boards that won't be working again.

I'm using a keyboard to power it on. I hear the hard drive spin and fan come on, which is why I assume it's the ROM I killed. I remember my first instinct when I noticed it was to measure how hot the chip got and it was above 90c which makes me think it's shorted dead.
