| Dual-Boot and switch between OS 8.6 and OS X - Tutorial |
Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2022-03-19 18:44:30 I had just installed both Mac OS 8.6 and OS X 10.2 on my iBook Clamshell, and then I discovered something. While OS X could switch the startup disk to the OS 8.6 system folder, OS 8.6 could not switch the startup disk back to OS X. I was about to write up a thread asking if there was some 3rd party tool that could switch system folders, but then I had a thought. What if I just copied the Startup Disk control panel from a copy of OS 9.2.2 and replaced the OS 8 version. Would it work? I had to find out.

It did!
I’m not sure how far back this works, but there you go!
For all I know, this could be common knowledge, but I thought I'd put it here in case it helps someone out in the future. |
Posted by: alectrona6400 on 2022-03-24 03:33:50 That's really cool! Although I myself am not too sure about the appeal of 8.6 compared to 9.2 other than RAM usage on older machines.... |
Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2022-03-24 04:36:39 Thanks! I didn’t have any systems running 8.x, so I thought I’d see how it ran on the Clamshell. It’s extremely fast! |
Posted by: alectrona6400 on 2022-03-24 05:39:31 I have a 300MHz Clam overclocked to 433MHz, so it would be interesting to see how it fares with 8.6. |
Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2022-03-24 06:54:12 How did you overclock it? It would be interesting to try it with one of mine. |
Posted by: alectrona6400 on 2022-03-24 07:33:20 There was a page somewhere but I'm not sure where it went. If 433 is unstable, go to 400. |
