| Converting Macintosh Plus from 110V to 220V |
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-03-02 09:20:45 Hi,
I have got a Mac Plus which is 110V rated, as far as I know, the board have space for 220V components which are not installed.
Do you think it is possible to convert the unit to 220V ? |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-03-02 09:28:06 Anything is possible with enough work. However, I think a far better solution would be to either get a converter or a 220v analog board from someone. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-03-02 10:26:23 There's an "international" board that came in both 110V and 220/230V variants. If that's what you have, in theory it's possible, but I don't know if anyone actually knows how to? |
Posted by: mg.man on 2022-03-02 10:26:28 Actually, I don't believe this is possible... not with the 110v only 'board. I've heard some US voltage Pluses did have the "International" 'board. Post a pic of yours and I'm sure others will chime in. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-03-02 10:28:42 Yes, the US 110V board isn't convertible even in theory afaik. |
Posted by: mg.man on 2022-03-02 10:29:02 FWIW, I *have* successfully converted a Classic A/B from 220V to 110V. That did require some jumper and capacitor moves. But unless you have the "International" A/B for the Plus, I'm pretty sure you're stuck with 110V... |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-03-02 10:34:12 Yes, the later compacts had boards that could operate as either depending on jumpers or switches. The Plus, however, was a different story. |

depending on jumpers or switches There are no switches on the Classic A/B. Soldered wire "jumpers"/links need to be changed, and one voltage has 2 the other 1 large cap (of different values) - these also need to be changed. I have a usenet post somewhere if anyone is interested. |
Posted by: amedeo_68k on 2022-03-02 10:50:40 Thank you so much for the answers. I’m going to open the machine and look at the analog board in the coming days. I’ll keep you informed. |

I've definitely seen a whitch somewhere... I acquired this hoard last year...

...none of the A/Bs had a "voltage" switch... 🤔 |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2022-03-02 11:24:26 None of mine have switches, either. That's not to say there wasn't one, but if there is I am fairly sure it didn't reach the UK... |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-03-02 11:40:43 I'll have to figure out what the heck I am thinking of. Maybe it was a jumper...maybe it was a brain fart... |

maybe it was a brain fart... I have those all the time..... 🤣 |
