I replaced the RIFAs which fixed all my display issues, and managed to get the thing to work completely. I had booted it multiple times with system 6.08 and it worked every time. Since I fixed the screen, I put the computer back together and upon connecting peripherals and attempting to boot, it would chime and go dark when I inserted a disk. It would loop this cycle until I manually ejected it and turned it off. I took the back off again and inspected the floppy drive and the motherboard, and also removed the dead pram battery to recreate the conditions under which it was just working. I left it overnight and came back to it today where I cleaned the motherboard and reflowed the solder joints on the scsi floppy cable. I put the back back on, and tried a few more things. System 3.2 is the only one I have that works, and once it boots it gives the population I show in the first picture. 6.08 it gave the happy Mac momentarily, then gave the error that I show in the 2nd picture. Yeah, I would try to make another. Not sure if you have any bridge Mac's, if you don't, you may want to buy a FloppyEmu which can be loaded with disk images. Cheaper than buying a new set and quicker than messing around with newer computers and old disks.
There's a small chance the floppy drive could be dirty, but chances are if one disk works fine, it's not. You can also buy a set of new system 6 disks on ebay, or I'm sure a member here can make you some if you can't do it yourself. | Posted by: ßœœ on 2022-02-04 16:19:09
I have a Macintosh g3 powerpc that works beautifully! Only problem is every download of system 6 is broken. I'll update once i get it working. It says broken pipe, not sure what that means. | | 1 |
