Mac SE Superdrive Upgrade

Working on my SE today, I have a set of Superdrive roms I want to put in it, and I'd like to use a Powermac black door floppy drive I have laying around. Anything I need to know? Or will it just go together and work?

Yes: that drive will not work with the SE. Even if it did work electronically, the eject and inject mechanisms will not work with the SE's super-tight drive slot clearances. You need a Sony SuperDrive.

Ah, ok. That's unfortunate but makes sense. Which models should I be looking for?

In addition to the roms and the drive, you'll need a SWIM chip to replace the WIM

MFD-75W-01x. The "x" can be a D or G or some other rev. They all work. The easier way to identify them is by blue (as opposed to black or red) labels on them.

There are good photos of them at this ended eBay auction:

If you post in the Trading section here as a WTB ad, someone will undoubtedly have one for you.

Thanks...I took for granted that he meant that as well.

Yeah I have that also. I got the complete set from an absolutely trashed SE Superdrive. Managed to find a drive that works with this on my shelf, just has the usual broken eject gear
