Mac SE/30 ripple artifact on right side of screen
Posted by: ironhalo on 2022-01-22 23:54:21
After recapping the logic board on my SE/30 my video output is working again, but I’m noticing an intermittent ripple effect on the right side of the screen (video link below). It seems more prevelant during boot up (especially a cold boot), but I have noticed it occasionally later on as well.

Today I recapped my analog board and was hoping maybe that would take care of it, but it’s still there. Tomorrow I’m recapping the power supply, and if that doesn’t fix it I’ll definitely be in need of some guidance.

Does anyone recognize this as a common symptom with a typical set of likely causes?

Yeah, recap the power supply first. Check the voltages.

+ reflow the analogue board while you’re there, especially around the yoke connector

I think that also could point to a bad ground, as in that one green wire coming from the power supply to the frame. You can try retightening it. Most likely the power supply though.

Success! I recapped the power supply, reflowed the yoke connector, and double checked all my grounds. Video ripple is now 100% gone. Thanks all.
