| Mac SE30 Expansion Bracket Screws |

Does anyone happen to know the official screw size for the three sheet metal screws that attach the rear expansion bracket to the frame? The unit I’m working on came with the bracket unattached and no screws. I’ve tried several sizes I have laying around, but nothing I have fits perfectly. Thanks! |

I pulled one out of another chassis (pictured right), definitely not the same thread as a standard computer case screw (left). It's a machine screw that is smaller than M3, and larger than M2. It's smaller than any thread gauges or spare nuts I have laying around. M2.5 maybe? Unless it's standard rather than metric... |

Don’t have anything useful to add, but I have been wondering this too.
Out of the huge box of random screws I got there’s nothing that really fits consistently between all the different Macs I got. |

Reporting back with my fix for anyone else who has this issue in the future. As mentioned above, the size for these three accessory bracket mounting screws is something between an M3 and M2, which is problematic as it doesn't match any other screws in the chassis and it's not a size you're likely to have laying around. It also isn't threaded for any standard 'computer case' screws you might have. It's a mystery size for sure.
Anyway, my fix as it turns out was to run an M3 tap through them. The existing holes are sized very nicely for this as-is so you don't need to drill them first. The new threads took perfectly, and now I can use any M3 screws and the bracket is more solidly connected than it ever was before. Cheers. |
