All of my computers have networking cards installed already. The site is not clear on this, do I NEED to connect them to the network with a Localtalk bridge, or can I use the installed network cards? I don't want to have to spend $100-$200 on a bridge when I already have the network cards.
It SEEMS like it should work without the bridge? | Posted by: cheesestraws on 2021-12-14 16:09:45 If all your macs have Ethernet, no need to get a LocalTalk bridge for the sake of it. You'll still be able to use all the functions with EtherTalk. The LocalTalk gateway is just there to turn localtalk "into" EtherTalk.
That said, you probably won't want to use the MacIP bit of the service if you have Ethernet, because it's probably easier—and certainly faster—to just talk IP directly over Ethernet. But the auxiliary functionality in MacIPpi is very handy indeed, and there's no need for LocalTalk to use that. | Posted by: Johnnya101 on 2021-12-14 16:20:55 Thanks for the info. Im really only interested in the way it makes a "snapshot" of a site that works on old browsers. Should have said that at first to clear things up. | | 1 |
