Forcing boot partition choice in OpenFirmware 2.0.1
Posted by: cocoadelica on 2021-12-09 03:56:22
I have a PowerBook 2400c with an Interware G3 upgrade card.
All has been well running 9.2.2 with the OldWorldSupport 1.0.1 added.
However now I am having a problem where it boots to desktop but never completes loading the Finder. If I try to load without extensions I get a bus error (presumably as the extension for the CPU upgrade didn't load) and when I try to boot to the extensions manager it loads it but freezes.
So I am down to trying to boot into the other partition on my drive that contains a 9.1 installer bootable disk.

I am trying to work out how to specify where too boot from, OF 2.0.1 doesn't support the GUI boot disk chooser so it needs to be with a command and I just can't work it out. Anyone help?

Another option is boot from a CF card in the PCMCIA slot, but the same question remains, how do I select it as the boot disk?

This is where an external CD drive with a boot disc works wonders to fix issues on these.

True, sadly I have no such thing around right now
I mean I have disks just no drive to use.

Have you tried "Option-Command-Shift-Delete" at start-up, this should bypass the regular startup volume and search for others.
