Testing hack

Posted by: bibilit on 2016-04-09 04:34:15 The idea is not mine, as Zuiko21 from this forum was probably the first to test it, but i spent a hour or so  modifying a PC extension cable as a Mac Logic Board extension one. Useful, no need to put the board back and forth for testing purposes, moreover the board is now flat.

Posted by: tanaquil on 2016-04-09 05:20:48 Interesting! That could come in handy. I scratched my poor fingers half to death moving the logic board in and out of my SE/30 a dozen times while I was trying to get it to work.  How did you accomplish the mod? What parts did you use?

Just an old ATX extension cable, i removed the few wires not required and double check my work before testing everything. Posted by: tanaquil on 2016-04-09 12:33:48 Because I'm a moron about these things (plugging in is about the level of my skill) - you cut the ends off the ATX extension cable and a Mac power cable and then, what? How do you connect the common wires with each other? Or are you wiring the end of a Mac power cable directly onto the wires of the ATX cable? I too would pay money for such a critter - obviously I'm not safe to be doing it on my own! (j/k, I would give it a try if I understood a bit better... not joking about being willing to pay someone else to do it though...)

Posted by: mrpippy on 2016-04-09 14:46:27 Yep I also used a 24-pin ATX extension cable as an SE/30 logic board extension, all I had to do was cut off some of the pins on the logic board side. The shape of the pins is a match, and the ATX extension just passes them through.

Posted by: bibilit on 2016-04-10 02:42:01 Plug the extension in the Macintosh board, locate the part of the connector not required, cut it off, then do the same on the other side. Double check using the color coded wires and you are done.

Posted by: 360alaska on 2016-05-01 20:39:06 You can use an atx extension and you really don't have to cut off the extra pins, it is shaped in such a way that it only fits one way...

Posted by: uniserver on 2016-05-01 21:40:15 yeah the funny thing is it keys right up. pops in ,,, you can lop off the overhang or just let over hang, doesn't seem to bother anything.
