| Click here to select a new forum. | | Recommended new mechanical RGB keyboards - transparent? | Posted by: Byrd on 2021-11-10 14:34:52 Alright - I admit, I like flashy LED rainbow devices (fans, GPUs, keyboards, cases) that are currently popular in the PC world.
One thing I haven't kept track of is the massive interest mechanical keyboards - there are so many options I'm not sure where to start looking.
I've a MacEffects clear SE/30 I'd like to couple with an compact RGB keyboard with USB-->ADB adapter - can anyone recommend a new keyboard that looks the part - compact, transparent case (or able to purchase a case for) ... and 🙄 (adjustable) RGB without need for software?
Thanks

Reddit thread where someone had the same idea | Posted by: Gorgonops on 2021-11-10 21:42:24 Most of the cheap and cheerful mechanical keyboards (which I'll be frank, I love the @#$# out of after finding out they exist) seem to incorporate a metal plate above the PCB to hold/stabilize the switches. I imagine you'd lose a lot of stiffness doing without it.
If you want something that would harmonize with a transparent case without actually being transparent maybe something like this:
As a starter, and then seeing if you can swap the keycaps for more fully transparent ones? (I have a couple keyboards that share this chassis style and I like them. There are similarly colored ones in both full 104 and more stripped-down 60% layouts. *) Here's a set of transparent caps that would probably fit it:
Although these ones don't have legends printed on them, which may be a bummer.
(* Edit: I linked to the "red switch" variant, I'd personally go for the blue. Clickier the better!) | | 1 |
