Yesterday I picked up an extremely clean Mac Classic. It was apparently part of a computer lab, but doesn't look to have been used all that much. Pictures make it look a little yellow, but the case is not darkened hardly at all.

Time to see what kind of surprises await inside...

I couldn't believe how nice this looked inside. Hardly any sign of dust anywhere - looks to be a very low hours machine which has never been opened previously.

Logic board is also very clean, but has a good deal of cap leakage (as to be expected). The color is also a brighter green than what I'm used to, but it could be that this is a 1991 model.

I did test the case and components using a recapped Classic II board, but didn't get anywhere. Next step is to discharge the CRT and make sure I have enough Nichicons on hand for the recapping to commence!

Very nice, clean score....plus the expansion card already populated by two SIMMs. Doesn't get better than that for a Classic! I hope that the restoration proceeds well, any chance of a restoration thread?

Yes, excited to see it has the maximum RAM preinstalled! And yes, the battery was removed immediately. For giggles I measured the voltage... 0.08, ha.

I can absolutely start a restoration thread if there is interest. I have a few Mac IIs I'm working on, a few PB1XX machines, Color Classic, and SE/30. Might be fun to post about those as well I suppose!

The way I see it, no matter how clean or perfect a machine is, there's always some weird quirk that you run up against while restoring that someone else may have not encountered. Even if they have, your resolution of it may be unique. I think it's great to have all that here as a sort of database for others to refer to.
