| Non bootable bin files (apple mac os 6.0.2-7.5.2 Greek Lang) |
Posted by: soneigr on 2021-09-30 06:24:20 Good evening I discovered the problem because the file does not boot. The reason is that these files are in bin format so the program cannot recognize them as a floppy disk. How can i convert them to img and bootble ?
end in .bin
The program (Mini vMac) cannot recognize them and read them as an img boot disk.
The archives I downloaded and say are here for you to look for:

Posted by: robin-fo on 2021-09-30 07:33:53 They are MacBinary encoded. On a modern Mac, you can decode them using Archive Utility. You could also import the files into Mini vMac and unpack them using binUnpk.
Good luck! |

Good luck! Good evening my friend can you be a little clearer? I'm not old enough to know. So let's take it one step at a time from the beginning. First of all, how can I decompress them on a sync mac? secondly how can i insert them into the vMac Mini and decompress them over there? |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2021-09-30 13:02:16 What are you downloading the images on? A modern Mac, a Windows PC, or what? |

OK. If you download them on your Mac and just double-click on them, they should unencode from .bin files to .img files. I just did it here and that worked (though I am using an older version of OS X, but I think it works in new versions) |

And after their decompression, what will I do, will I throw them in the vmac mini and will they boot? |

The built-in dearchiver should do it. If it doesn't, then get The Unarchiver.

Should do, though not all the System 6 discs have System Folders, so not all are bootable. Boot from the first disc. |

Posted by: robin-fo on 2021-09-30 14:10:15 I can confirm that The Unarchiver is able to extract them. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2021-09-30 14:10:57 The Unarchiver has always worked for me. |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2021-09-30 14:17:26 The Unarchiver is also great to extract .sit archives which you are likely to encounter when downloading old mac software. On a vintage mac (or inside an emulator like Mini vMac), you would need StuffIt Expander instead. |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2021-09-30 14:33:35 By the way, it appears to me that some of the image files you are mentioning above are corrupted, so they won't boot even after extraction. |

By the way, it appears to me that some of the image files you are mentioning above are corrupted, so they won't boot even after extraction. When you say damaged files, do you mean that they will be destroyed over time and over time? are not recovered? |
Posted by: robin-fo on 2021-10-01 04:37:47 I don't know how they were damaged, this can maybe happen when being stored on a damaged device like a scratched CD or a bad flash drive. It would be difficult or impossible to restore them. |
Posted by: soneigr on 2021-12-12 09:45:31 Good evening, I bring this issue back for more help because some files seem to have been decompressed with the above program on my macbook pro m1, but some file extensions do not open with the vmac mini as they are in .image, .img format. I gathered them all here for someone who wants to download them, edit them with some bass program and can help me and upload them again in one of his own clouds to get them ready and work. I have a macintosh centris 650 and I would like to pass a Greek operating system on it. I have blank diskettes. |
