| PowerBook 190 Display Recap (Success Story) |

I got this quite nice looking PB 190 few months ago. The seller did say it would probably need a recap of the LCD as the image is changing contrast all the time and is very temperature dependant. I was sceptical about this as those machines were supposed to have "good" caps in them and not the horrible leaky stuff as is found in PB 100 or PB 160s.
He was right though. The caps were looking absolutely fine with no corrosion to be seen. But measuring the ESR has showed that all of them were out of spec. Not really completely dead, but still with one leg in the grave dead. 1st photo is of the new cap and 2nd shows the old cap.
Replacing the caps made the LCD contrast better and 100% stable. So problem fixed 🙂
Luckily the caps in question just dry up and not leak as in older Macs, so there is not any hurry to recap them. |

Apologies for the bump, I'm working on capacitor reference info for my website and I was wondering if you still have the capacitor value for those 3 radial caps on the display. Thanks! |

What I can remember from almost 2 years ago:
The small ones (yellow) were 3.3uF at 35V. I replaced those with 3.3uF at 50V ceramic multilayer ones.
The larger ones were 100uF at 16 or 25V.
