| Is there any iomega zip drive enclosure 3d print drawing available? |
Posted by: Andrew on 2021-08-26 01:09:35 Hi all,
does anyone know if such a thing exists? My scsi zip 100 drive fell down and broke into 100 pieces. It seems that the plastic that makes these thing has become very brittle.
I am wondering if an enclosure could be 3d printed. I've done some research online but couldn't find something. |

Posted by: Andrew on 2021-08-26 05:13:20 Thanks. This is what i have already done. Problem is that all of these units brake no matter how careful you are when opening. This was the second case (from a parallel drive) that I broke |

Edit: looks like it's a bit more complicated than I recall. You'll need to use the bottom plastics of one of your cases as the spring clips are integrated. You'll need to make blocks with holes in them to get cl;earances to work out: ZipMacPLUSâ„¢
Clear top Zip would still be cool and you could likely use bolts for the spring retainers to go fully clear. This might make for an interesting laser cut project for a clear plexi build. |

That's a good idea but since I have a 3d printer, I was thinking of maybe creating something like @PotatoFi has done for other cases.
I have noticed that the zip drives have very small tolerances for all parts. For example I have not been able to run the drive without the top cover attached. I think even half a mm is enough to prevent it from working |
