Japanese MACLIFE magazine CD-ROM collection
Posted by: gingerbeardman on 2021-08-24 15:27:38
I've uploaded seventeen(!) CD-ROMs that were distributed with issues of the renowned Japanese Macintosh magazine MACLIFE.

Lots of old apps to rediscover! Text contents included.

I'm working on digitising a second collection from another publication but it's proving... expensive in terms of time and money.

Any chance you have a copy of gbmac in that collection? It's a japanese gameboy emulator that's really well written with amazing performance even on 030 macs, not to mention 040!

I'll search my filename database soon.

But until then each upload has a text file with all files listed in it.

No sign of GBMac on the discs I've imaged so far.

But I found it here: https://www.macintoshrepository.org/10592-gbmac

And here: https://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA009321/index2.html (and via searching for that filename on google)

Yes, but those are the public version in which you can't save 😀! I was hoping on one of your CD's there was the rare 1.3.1 version that cannot be found anywhere on the internet. Been searching for it for the past half an year and I'm close to putting up a bounty for that version.

Anyway, thanks for looking and sorry for distracting from the thread. Thank you for the upload 🙂

I read that was only for registered users?

Email is not available anymore. Managed to track down the author on git where he posted a new email address that sadly, also doesn't work anymore. You have no idea how long I've been waiting to throw money at the author, including paying him to publicise the emulator for everyone to use 🙁

I'll keep looking as I image more discs.

But I am interested in older stuff than the date of GBMac.

90% purchased as bundles of loose discs without magazines.

I do have at least a few dozen magazines, but it's a much bigger effort to debind and scan them. Never say never, but not in the near future.

@gingerbeardman do you still have the disc for MACLIFE 143 (2000-07)?
One of the files (HandFAX 1.0.4 Updater.sit) seems to be corrupt on the ISO images available... Bad dump or just a bad disc?
