Color Classic Mystic Software mod?
Posted by: glay78 on 2021-08-09 07:29:50
I’ve got a Performa 578 board which is basically an LC575. I recapped it and did the software mod on my 7.6.1 it boots with chime but I get no display. The SCSI2SD reads and boots into system. I’ve did the system mods and tried 7.5.3 also gives me the same result.

I’m not in the direction to hard mod my analog board yet so am I doing the right things and how come I couldn’t get a display?

here’s what I did.

1. Copy my system file to Mac OS 9 on TiBook (I’m on system 7.6.1)

2. ResEdit it as what was taught changed gestald ID 99 boot process from 21 to 10.

3. Save it

4. Remove system file from my CC’s SCSI2SD

5. Replace system file

6. Blessed folder

7. Starts CC with LC575.

8. Chime and boot but screen is blank. It works but I got no output.

Any help?

I believe you need to make a hardware mod regardless... either to the CC analog 'board to support 640 x 480 *or* to the LC"575" 'board to default to the CC's resolution of 512 x 384. I don't think you can s/w mod only?

Hi I read that it’s able, check out 2.1.3

Good to know. I have a '575 'board waiting for me at my 'folks. I hope to collect it in the next couple of weeks. I'll then be trying what you're trying! 😉 Hope you can make some progress in the meantime!

Yes indeed this is better for me cos I’m just trying to get it work out. If u mod I am unable to put in my CC2 board anymore. Thought I still have a CC1 with Presto 040 but I wish to keep them all in original state if possible

The software mod seems correct (I've got a CC running 7.5 this way.) Unsure why you might not be getting video otherwise. Personally I'd try to test the 575 board in other hardware if possible (may not be since it sounds like you just got the board). You could try re-seating it and cleaning the edge contacts as well to make sure there's not an issue there. Confirming nothing happened with the display/analog board with the old CC board would probably be a good troubleshooting step as well.

I’ll try in my other CC then. Will try it with 7.1 this time

7.1 should be a little simpler in that it only requires an enabler at least.

Still need to edit the enabler file. But it’s easy too.

Oh... hmm I could have sworn it was just an enabler for 7.1 but looks like you're right.

I’ll try and update. Hope the board works

Hi, in system 7.5.? you also need to ResEdit the second System-file (sorry, I don’t rember its name: “System Recourses”?).
Sounds like testing the 578 in another machine is the safest bet. If not possible: cleaning the edge connector as mentioned and resetting or replacing the v-ram sims?

Did you eve find out what the issue was? I'm having a similar issue, though my screen is very, ver dim and the brightness buttons don't have any affect. The CC boots fine regardless.

Hi nope, I think it could be my board. I removed some caps and re soldered but this time it does not chime anymore.
