| Macintosh II board starts, but without boot chime |
Posted by: Aektann on 2021-08-06 10:27:10 My troubled Macintosh II board continues to surprise me. This time it boots, however, one time the process is normal, other times it is not. When something goes wrong, the board starts with the only short click out of the speaker, and nothing more happens. No boot chime, no error chime, nothing! I'm totally pissed off and cannot even imagine why the board goes crazy that way. |
Posted by: desertrout on 2021-08-06 10:32:13 What work was done to the board before now? My first thought is a flaky trace somewhere around the power switch... |
Posted by: Aektann on 2021-08-06 11:21:34 The board was cleaned, old axial capacitors were replaced, new power switch button was soldered. I checked the board several times. Sometimes it starts normally, sometimes no reaction except powering on the power supply. |

Which revision board is it? Early revision, 820-0163-B |
Posted by: desertrout on 2021-08-06 15:26:12 OK, so no SMD's mucking things up on that side of the board... it could be your lithium batteries then, B2 in particular. |
Posted by: Aektann on 2021-08-06 16:46:04 Finally, I solved this problem by simply pushing some chips on board. I believe it was cache and ROM ones. Perhaps some of them had bad connection. Now my board starts without a problem. Thank you so much for your patience and assistance! |
