| Newtpaint FULL version? |
Does anyone know where the full version of Newtpaint can be had? The demo is readily available, but it’s pretty useless since it expires after a while.
Thanks!

Give these a try, I haven't tested either of them so I can't guarantee this is what you want...
Edit: re-attach files (seems that .image and .hqx aren't allowed?)

Wow thanks, I’ve been looking for the full version of NewtPaint™ for quite a while. Installed it on Einstein (Newton emulator) works like a charm.

Has it been released as freeware?

Has it been released as freeware? No idea, but I had an extremely hard time finding much information about it. I didn’t see a place where it could even be purchased either.
I am extremely grateful that @aladds shared a copy of it though!

If I'm honest I can't remember where this came from. I was a member of the NTLK mailing list back when I used a MP2100 as my daily driver, so it's possible it came from there or someone on there. If we think it might not be legitimate to have this here then I'm totally ok with it being removed (although seemingly I can't do that myself)
The other option is we try to contact LandWare (or whoever they are now) and ask them to officially release it - there is a precedent, since a number of old Newton applications have been released as open source now (e.g. NewtCard, NSBasic)

Landware products, like Catamount, etc., seem to have required a serial after x days, so if this software doesn’t, perhaps it has indeed been released into the wild. I’m pretty sure their Lunar Lander game was….
It’s hard to keep track of Newton software, as it‘s all over the place and the unna repository isn’t at all up to date.

- Change the file extension from .image to .img
- Open Disk Utility
- Choose Images > Convert…
- Select the .img file and Click “Choose”
The legacy disk image will be converted to a .dmg file which can be mounted in newer versions of macOS.

I was able to convert the image file using Disk Utility under High Sierra.
My guess is that support for HFS images was dropped in newer versions of Disk Utility.

What are the relative benefits of NewtPaint vs NewtWorks Draw?
Posted by: okto on 2025-07-08 13:17:38 |
NewtPaint was a true bitmap editing program, similar to MacPaint, DeskPaint, and the like.
The Drawing stationery included as part of Newton Works incorporated both bitmap-based tools and vector-like object creation tools, similar to MacDraw.
The document format (or stationery) used by the drawing component of the Newton Works application. When a new drawing document is created, it is assigned the default title “ …

Thanks, except I couldn’t get that version to work, but I found this site…
Vector (Japanese)
…which has a version that seems to work.

Good find.
I’ve added the Vector Newton software page to the Newton FAQ.
Where can I find software for my Newton?
