Hi y'all, it's your boy $username here. I have some questions regarding System 7.1 and it's behaviour.
First of all, whenever I boot my machine, it prompts me to enter my credentials to connect to a network drive (which obviously I don't have as the previous owner had it). It's nothing major, but I have to cancel it 20 times before I can use the system altogether. Is there a way to disable it? In startup items I have nothing (I already disabled XPress as it had it before).
My second concern is that whenever I have to use the apple menu on the top (be it to switch programs, shutdown the machine or use any option up there) I have to keep the mouse pressed, and release it on the menu item I want to use. Is this the default behaviour of System 7.1? Is there any way to make it behave like any modern Mac? (1 Click to open the items, and another to select it).

To your second question, it is indeed the default behavior for all versions of classic Mac OS and I don’t like it (anymore) either. StickyClick is a nice utility that will give you the behavior you prefer: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/stickyclick |

Not holding down the mouse I believe started with OS 8. As for your first issue, throw out the AppleShare Prefs file (in the preferences folder) and it will no longer remember to connect to that server at startup. |

Also make sure an alias to the network share isn't in startup items or something easy like that as well. |

Open the System Folder. Go into Preferences. Drag Appleshare Prep into the trash. Check Startup Items for an alias that refers to an item on a server. In Apple Menu Items control panel, set the 'remember servers' to 0. Reboot. |

If you don’t care much for the existing install, there is nothing as good as a fresh OS install. It also is good practice to have a complete suite of 7.1 installer disks built and ready for future needs. |
