My 1988 Macintosh SE still has its original Varta PRAM battery installed, which works fine and keeps the date/time almost perfectly. Despite the PRAM battery working, I'd rather not chance having it rupture one day and taking out the logic board.
Unlike in my Classic, this battery is soldered directly to the logic board. To remove, should I de-solder the legs going to the battery, or just snip with some scissors or something? I'd like to possibly install a new battery, if possible - which brings me to my next point.
What is a good method for installing a new battery in the SE models where the battery is soldered directly to the board? Do some batteries still come with legs, or can you solder in wires going to an external holder? I've thought about the latter option, but where would you even mount a battery holder? I'd like to see/hear about what others have done.
P.S. - I know the PRAM battery isn't necessary; I don't have one in my Classic. But I would like to be able to keep the time/date intact. I'm looking to purchase new PRAM batteries anyways as I'd like to install one in my Classic so it keeps the brightness setting.

I don't have a picture or anything handy, but there's a 2nd set of holes in the same area of the logic board that will fit a PRAM battery holder.
https://store.retrofixes.com/products/macintosh-se-pram-holder is one place to buy the battery holder, there may be a better/cheaper place to buy it

I would snip off the legs and then desolder them. Then attach wires to a separate battery holder that can be attached somewhere as far away from the board as possible.
