180c VSync Issue
Posted by: sutekh on 2020-12-21 06:25:26
Hi Friends, Over the weekend I decided to see about getting my "parts" 180c up and running. I purchased it with a pre-existing screen condition alongside a 180, and although I combined its best bits with my other 180c to make a single, very nice unit, this one is complete and really not too shabby either. Its plastic faults have all been JB Welded and it's been completely recapped. I'd hoped they later might rectify the screen stability issue, but alas, no such luck. Here's what it's doing:

A few observations:

1. The screen is briefly stable at initial power-on and may stay that way for as long as a few minutes.

2. Swapping the inverter boards from my good 180c doesn't improve anything.

3. I've metered the ribbon cable and it's fine

I suspect something internal to the screen, but before I crawl down the service manual hunt, metering & scoping rabbit hole, I figured I'd ask if anyone has seen something similar and resolved?

Place pressure around the connectors, ribbon sandwich in the LCD itself to see if you can elicit a stable image

Just to close the loop on this, I swapped in the working screen from my other 180c and it works fine. Definitely an issue with the panel. Looks like the LQ9D01A 8.4" panels are still readily available NOS is I decide I want to drop a hundo on one...

Youll still likely encounter cap damage even when NOS, so youll have to recap it for sure. Assuming it hasnt damaged the board already.
