Replacement head bumpers for Quantum ProDrive LPS
Posted by: elemenoh on 2020-11-19 12:48:30
I have a stack of Quantum ProDrive LPS HDDs that have sticky head mechanism bumpers. I previously tried replacing a set with stiff 1/4" water filter tubing. It worked, but was a pain to get over the flanges. I recently found some cheap silicone tubing on amazon in the exact dimensions as the original grommets (OD 8mm, ID 4mm). I cut a couple roughly and tried them out on a very dead drive today. They fit great!

Here's the link if you want to give it a shot.

Oh, Nice discovery!

Now just need to figure out what size the bumpers are on the drives which have the rubber bumper actually under the platter.... Only can service single-platter drives this way, But.... still doable.

I used a 3D printer to print the bumpers with TPU (polyurethane). Worked for me.

Not everyone has access to that though, I dont. So the tube idea is a decent solution.
